Rs. 3,000 per month in your old age, learn how to avail the benefits

E-Shram Card 2026: Millions of people in India earn their living through daily labor, but their future is unsure. Daily wage laborers, rickshaw pullers, domestic workers, vegetable vendors, farm laborers, and construction workers—all of them are part of the unorganized sector. They have neither permanent jobs nor access to pensions after retirement. Recognizing this problem, the Central Government has launched the E-Shram Card 2026 initiative to provide these workers with an identity and security for their future.

What is the E-Shram Card 2026 and why was it needed?

The biggest problem faced by workers in the unorganized sector was that they lacked official government records. Whenever a scheme was introduced, it was difficult to reach the right people with its benefits. The E-Shram Card is a direct solution to this problem. Upon registration, a national digital record of the worker is created with a unique number. This allows the government to track each worker’s work in which sector, enabling assistance to be directly provided to them when needed. This card serves as a form of government identification for the worker, potentially serving as the basis for many future programs.

Who Can Get This Card?

This scheme is specifically designed for those without social security. Farm laborers, construction workers, domestic workers, rickshaw pullers, cart pullers, vegetable vendors, and small self-employed individuals are eligible. However, income tax payers, EPFO or ESIC employees, government employees, and those already receiving benefits from an organized pension scheme are not eligible. People over 60 years of age are also not eligible for new registration. Simply put, this scheme is for those without a stable income or pension.

How and when will you receive a ₹3,000 pension?

People often think that they will receive ₹3,000 every month as soon as they obtain an E-Shram Card, but this is not true. This pension benefit is not directly linked to the card but to the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Yojana (PMSHRM). After registering for this scheme, workers are required to deposit a small amount every month until they reach the age of 60. The government also contributes an equal amount. When a person reaches 60, they begin receiving a monthly pension of ₹3,000. This is intended to ensure that workers do not have to depend on anyone in their old age and can live a life with dignity.

Accident Insurance Benefits

Another major benefit of the E-Shram Card is accident insurance. Laborers’ work is often risky. Accidents are a possibility while working at construction sites, operating machinery in the fields, or driving on the road. If a registered worker dies in an accident or becomes permanently disabled, their family receives financial assistance. This security can prove to be a big relief for the family.
